Published 03/26/20Plumbing is important to your daily life, but it isn’t something you think much about …until it isn’t working right. And there is nothing worse than having plumbing issues! Well, there are worse, but not when you ready to take a shower or the toilet is overflowing. And those things and more, can happen at any given moment, often without any kind of warning, especially if you don’t know what warning signs to be aware of.
Plumbing problems are unpleasant, and they can be expensive. And in addition to the plumbing itself being an expensive repair or replacement, if there has been leaking water, there are residual issues to deal with as well. Like drywall damage, floorboard rot, mold, and more.
Your homeowner’s insurance may cover this to some extent, depending on the cause of the problem. Or if you have a home warranty cover plumbing problems, then you won’t be out as much money. You’ll still be inconvenienced by it all until things are repaired, but you can have some peace of mind knowing that your out-of-pocket expense will only be either a deductible or service charge.
When you’re experiencing a plumbing leak or water is overflowing and flooding the house, a policy with a home warranty cover plumbing leaks will cost you nothing more than the service call fee, or deductible, commonly around $50 to $75. The majority of home warranties plumbing in various stages. It is recommended to read through any policy before you purchase it to see exactly what is covered. There should be an option to upgrade the policy for an additional cost if desired.
So, you may be asking, if plumbing warranty is covered by a home warranty plan, is it worth the expense? What if you never use it? Well, with plumbing being a part of a daily routine for all of us, from flushing a toilet, taking a shower, brushing your teeth, washing dishes or doing laundry, chances are at some time, you will have a plumbing issue.
Paying that $300 to $500 a year for a home warranty plan is going to be a lot less then if you must call a plumber, especially if it is after hours or during a holiday. A plumber can cost on the average, $175 and up just for the service call. Any work to be done, any parts to be replaced, will be in addition to that service call. So, unless you have hundreds of dollars unspoken for sitting around for just such a case, does home warranty cover plumbing sound easier to plan and pay for?
Before you purchase a home warranty plan, you should read through the contract first. If there is an area of the contract that you don’t understand, or you don’t see specifics mentioned in the contract about plumbing, ask questions. Not all home warranty plans are the same and the most expensive doesn’t mean it is the best one. If you have one, you want to make sure that the septic system covered within the policy, and what parts of that system will be covered.
In general, you want a home warranty that will provide you coverage for the many unexpected and expensive problems that can happen with plumbing, even if you have to pay extra for additional coverage to cover your septic tank system, sump pump, and well pump. It is most likely that the basics like clogs or simple leaks will not be covered, like a faucet dripping or toilet running. Those are simple home remedies and calling a plumber would be considered unnecessary for what is considered normal wear and tear.
Unfortunately, as a homeowner, you will have those inevitable plumbing issues with your home. With a home warranty plan, you can take some of that unexpected stress away knowing that for just $50 to $75 service call, your plumbing problem is covered.
