Questions to Ask About Appliance Warranty Plans

Appliance warranty coverage is becoming increasingly popular. This kind of coverage, also known as a home warranty, has simplified home repairs. A home warranty is a service contract that covers the cost of repairs and replacement of your home’s systems and appliances when they break down over time from normal wear and tear. Appliance warranty services vary by provider, but in general they allow homeowners to save money and time.

How do home appliance repair contracts work?

An appliance repair warranty, also known as a home warranty, has made home repairs easy to manage for homeowners. All you have to do is pay a monthly premium and per service fee for each repair made.

Here’s how the process works when a home appliance breakdown occurs:

  • File a claim online or by phone

  • After paying your per claim fee, we’ll put you in contact with a local contractor to schedule your appointment

  • After officially diagnosing the problem, the contractor will contact us to make sure the issue is covered by your plan

  • If everything checks out, the contractor will then repair or replace the item in question

  • Afterwards, we’ll check in with you by email or phone to make sure you’re happy with the job

What do appliance warranty plans cover?

Some appliance warranty programs from the manufacturer will only cover that singular appliance. A home warranty, on the other hand, covers an array of your home’s appliances and systems regardless of the brand or age of them. Your home warranty coverage, though, will vary based on the plan you choose. Liberty Home Guard offers three major plans -- the Systems Guard plan, the Appliance Guard plan, and the Total Home Guard plan. You can add on items for coverage to any plan. For example, if you are interested in pool coverage, we offer that as an add-on.

How much does a home warranty cost?

The cost of your home warranty will vary depending on the coverage you get. Plans at Liberty Home Guard start as low as around $1/day. In general, a home warranty at Liberty Home Guard can be as low as $400/year. You will find that multi-year plans will give you more bang for your buck. The annual cost is often lower if you commit to a plan that is multi-year.

Who will come fix my home repairs?

A benefit to a home warranty plan is that you save money, but you also save time. When breakdowns occur, your home warranty provider arranges for the licensed technician to come to your house, diagnose the problem, and complete all the necessary repairs. Plus, your home warranty provider is responsible for paying the technician.

Not all home warranty providers work with licensed technicians, though. Liberty Home Guard only works with licensed technicians that undergo a rigorous 10-point vetting process. All repairs come with a 60-day workmanship guarantee. We promise our customers the highest quality workmanship. This is one reason why we are a leader in the industry and why we receive excellent reviews from our customers.

Do I need to cover my new appliances?

Service contracts for home appliances may come with new purchases, but they last for a  limited time. In most cases, a service contract is just a manufacturer’s warranty that will cover the cost of replacement parts and not the cost of labor. Your new home appliances are going to break down at some point, and you will need coverage after the manufacturer’s warranty expires. A home warranty covers your appliances whether they are new or old.

Are there limits to how many times I can file a claim for repairs?

At Liberty Home Guard there are no limits on how many claims you can file. Fee caps may apply in certain situations, but we do not limit the number of repairs. Each home warranty policy, regardless of the provider, will have some stipulations. It’s imperative that you read the policy contract and get familiar with its coverage before you sign up for anything.

What happens if I sell my home and don’t want my home warranty anymore?

You can always cancel your home warranty. You can also take your home warranty with you to your new home. At Liberty Home Guard, each plan comes with a trial period of a 30-day money back guarantee if you decide to cancel your plan. Regardless of how many months or years you are into a plan, you always have the option to cancel or adjust your plan as needed.
